The Magical MacGyver Method

Do you know that show “MacGyver”? The guy who created that icon, Lee Zlotoff, also created a problem solving method years back that's been incredibly helpful to me since I started practicing it a year ago.

It's simple: write down your problem or question in a notebook–by hand. Be as specific as you can, detailing as many problems around the issue you can think of. It's important to write it by hand rather than type or dictate, because there's some kind of magic between your hand and your subconscious or higher self.  [Note: I do occasionally do this exercise by typing because it is so much faster, but writing by hand tends to be more precise.]

After you have asked your question, go off and do something. Maybe wait 24 hours. Keep your mind off the problem and let it cook for a while. Then come back to your notebook and write out your answer.

It sounds dumb and ridiculous and easy and absurd, BUT IT WORKS LIKE A CHARM.

For me, I try to blank-out my mind out as much as possible when I return to the notebook. I don't even try to think of the problem. I just “watch” my mind and let the images and impressions roll in. I also don’t try to interpret the stuff when it's coming in, I just let it flow.

Some people might say your subconscious was working on the problem in the interim and that’s what’s coming through. No doubt this a huge part of it, but my experience is that this is a way to tap into some resources that are WAY bigger than me and my brain. I think I can hear from spirit and God when I’m able to relax my own mind, and the effects have been POWERFUL. My writing (some call this “automatic writing”) is one of the most essential tools I have to tap into the divine, make decisions, and move forward. And yes, connect with my powerful subconscious.

I recommend this to EVERYONE. The stuff that comes in is often wildly illuminating.

Try this method the next couple of times you’re faced with a conundrum. MacGyver that stuff and let me know how it goes.

Onward + Upward,

– Josie
