You might want to do a double take at Minneapolis-based Josie Lewis’s
works of art: at first glance, her pieces may look like stained glass
on steroids. However, Lewis’s creations are actually made out of found
paper pieces, layered with resin to create a “square-ish disc” that
weighs approximately 75 pounds and is about 3 or 4 inches thick. The
obsession that Lewis describes as “Van-Gogh-meets-pixels” is
breathtaking in its macroscopic quality, forcing the viewer to
contemplate the process a bit more deeply than usual. Lewis is
two-parts artist, one-part scientist in her endless sifting; creating
new order in a grand artistic landscape.
